Dany Laj and the Looks

'Word on the Street' (album stream)

Montreal-based pop-rockin' unit Dany Laj and the Looks are set to unveiled their latest LP Word on the Street next week, but Exclaim! is streaming it in its entirety a week early.

As previously revealed, the new record tells "the tale of the Northern Ontario kid trying to find his way south, ultimately to Montreal, by way of Sudbury, North Bay, Toronto, and everywhere in between, with stories of finding love, cross-country tours, and broken-down vehicles."

The story opens with an introduction to our protagonist, "Small Town Boy," setting the scene for the set of explosive power-pop songs that follows. Guitar-driven, melody-laden tracks fill the record, which bursts with energetic, sunshiney, unabashedly poppy vibes at every twist and turn.

"Where's the Love" — the song from which the album's name comes — shows off a more laid-back side to the band, while Toronto tribute "Queen St. West" toes the line between twangy roots rock and pop punk. Despite the brief forays into other subgenres, the record never loses focus on delivering catchy, toe-tapping music.

Filling out the sound behind Laj's animated vocals are the Looks — Jeanette Dowling (bass) and Lewis Hanford (drums). Word on the Street was produced Laj and Dowling, along with Brendan Howlett, who also served as the album's engineer. It was recorded at Stu-stu-studio.

Word on the Street actually hits the street on May 5 via Squirtgun Records, but you can give it an early spin in the player below right now. You can also check out the band's upcoming live dates here

UPDATE: You can also watch the new video for album track "Best Thing in Town" below the stream.
