Sudden Death Records and the Rickshaw Theatre in Vancouver have recently announced the Rock Against Racism fundraiser, featuring performances by D.O.A., Roots Roundup, China Syndrome and the Asian Persuasion All Stars.

Money raised will benefit Nations Skate Youth and South Burnaby Metro Club, with more grassroots organizations to be announced. The fundraiser will take place on June 4.

"We are in a tough and unsettled time right now and as we have gone through the pandemic we have seen racism grow in Canada, to the point where [racist] organizations are seemingly getting stronger," said D.O.A. frontman Joe Keithley in a statement.

The fundraiser takes its name from the original Rock Against Racism movement which started in the UK in the '70s as a response to the growing popularity of far-right organizations. Keithley explained further: "Those rallies were a great success and they motivated people to stand up to this kind of BS. So the Rickshaw Theatre and I have asked musicians to join this cause. I really believe this will work because music has always had the effect of making us stronger and it has the power of healing at the same time."

Nations Skate Youth is an organization "empowering Indigenous youth to embrace their right to self-determination through the positive impact of skateboarding," their website states, while the South Burnaby Metro Club has "sponsored numerous youth sporting events and has played a key role in the development of many of Burnaby's youth programs and facilities."
