Chilly Gonzales

The Weeknd's "Can't Feel My Face" (Pop Music Masterclass)

What's so great about the Weeknd's huge hit "Can't Feel My Face"? Canadian piano expert Chilly Gonzales is here to help break it down for us, as he has analyzed the song for his Pop Music Masterclass.

Chilly's clearly a big fan of the song, as he speaks with enthusiasm about all of the things that make this song unique and exciting. He explains its use of rhythmic delays — comparing it to Beethoven's Fifth Symphony — and the way that it withholds the root chord until late in the progression. He also discusses syncopation, and proves that reggae sounds extremely bad on piano.

The lesson was filmed for German radio station 1LIVE. Thankfully, Gonzales doesn't accuse anyone of plagiarism, so he probably won't need to issue any apologies this time around.
