As part of their 2022 North American tour with Bartees Strange, Car Seat Headrest did a sold-out three-night residency at New York's Brooklyn Steel. There was notably a fursuit involved, and it was all captured for a forthcoming live album.
Named for frontperson Will Toledo's signature DIY gas mask, Faces from the Masquerade arrives December 8 on Matador Records. It marks the band's first collection since the 2020 release of Making a Door Less Open.
"The 2022 'Masquerade' was a crazy tour that ignited with a particular ferocity once we touched ground on the East Coast," Toledo said in a statement, the group having had to cancel their West Coast commitments due to his ongoing health issues. "Our time in New York captures that momentary magic where we're playing at our peak and the crowd is responding as one giant body."
Press materials describe the 14-track Faces from the Masquerade, which features songs from across Car Seat Headrest's discography, as "simultaneously a joyride through the greatest hits and a conversation with the devoted and ever-growing following that has formed around the band, their songs and live communions."
