With the Gaslight Anthem currently on hiatus, vocalist Brian Fallon is helping the faithful cope by serving up some Painkillers in the form of a solo LP of the same name. He's teased a couple cuts already, with the latest cathartic preview to arrive being a stomp-and-clap-style strummer called "Smoke."
"I was losing my mind in the middle of Toronto," he sings gruffly on the cut, giving the inward-analyzing tune a bit of a Canadian twist. He goes on to detail broken hearts, revenge, terrifying newspaper headlines, love, and what it feels like to wake up "in somebody else's skin."
Full of honky-tonkin' pianos and frayed-wire guitar licks, "Smoke" can be sucked up below. Painkillers hits stores March 11 via Island/Virgin EMI.
