Beyoncé and JAY-Z Helped the Louvre Break the Record for Most Museum Visitors in a Year

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jan 3, 2019

The Louvre in Paris had more visitors last year than any other museums in history — and France is thanking Beyoncé and JAY-Z for the boost.

The Carters famously shot their video for "APESHIT" in the world-renowned museum, posing alongside works like the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, Winged Victory of Samothrace and Portrait d'une Négresse. The clip was released in July, when the couple dropped their surprise album Everything Is Love.

As if the video itself wasn't enough to drive fans to Paris, the Louvre actually began offering a Bey and Jay-inspired tour.

The result was a record-breaking number of visitors — 10.2 million to be exact. It marked a 25 percent increase in visitors from the previous year, while the city was still rebounding from 2015 terrorist attacks.

There's no way to know for sure how many of those visitors were directly influenced by the "APESHIT" video, but France's Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs are saying "merci" to the Carters nevertheless.
