Azealia Banks

"Barely Legal" (the Strokes cover)

Well, this seems out of left field, but Harlem rapper Azealia Banks has just thrown down a dancefloor-geared cover of the Strokes' classic Is This It? number "Barely Legal."

On the surface, the '90s-minded synth treatment seems a world away from the scrappy six-string licks that enveloped the original, and Banks' vocals seem a might floatier than Julian Casablancas' cigarette-stained croon. By the time that familiar chorus comes along, though, you might just find yourself singing along to the house-styled cover.

Here's hoping the Strokes are more into Banks' tribute than Baauer was with her beef-instigating "Harlem Shake" re-do.

The Strokes' new album Comedown Machine is due out March 26, while Banks' Broke with Expensive Taste is still in limbo. She tweeted, however, that a single called "Yung Rapunxel" hits iTunes March 26.
