In May, the 2019 Indigenous Music Awards honoured and celebrated work of First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples on Turtle Island. Now that the hardware has been handed out, the Manito Ahbee Festival has launched a video series featuring a trio of nominees from this year.

The first three videos in the festival's IMA Sessions series find 2019 nominees Mike Paul, Aasiva and Hellnback performing live at Arcade Studios in Niverville, MB.

Paul — whose album Origine was nominated for Best Inuit, Indigenous Language, or Francophone Album — performs "Pashikutau" with a steady drumbeat highlighting his vocal performance.

Aasiva — whose self-titled album earned her nominations for Best Folk Album and Best New Artist — harmonizes with herself and plays ukulele throughout the breezy "Qaulnaat Nunanganiit."

Finally, Hellnback —  whose #Fourteen91 album earned him nominations for Best Rap/Hip Hop Album and Best Producer/Engineer — puts his incisive pen game and impassioned delivery on display with a performance of "My Native People," featuring vocal accompaniment from Lisa Muswagon.

Watch all three sessions in the players below. The series was produced in partnership with Exclaim! and Kejic Productions.
