Following his arrest last month, charges of domestic battery against Trailer Park Boys actor and co-creator Mike Smith have been dropped.
Smith, who plays Bubbles on the long-running Canadian comedy, was arrested at Los Angeles' Roosevelt Hotel after he and friend Georgia Ling had a loud argument. A neighbour thought they overheard Smith assault Ling, so police arrested him.
As the CBC reports, the Los Angeles City Attorney's office said that the charge against Smith had been dropped "due to lack of sufficient evidence."
At the time of the arrest, both Smith and Ling released statements denying the allegations. "Georgia is a friend of mine and we had a loud and heated dispute," Smith said "That is all. At no time did I assault her. I am not guilty of the misdemeanour charged against me."
Ling added her own statement. "At no point did I feel I was in danger, otherwise I would've called the police myself, which I did not," she said. "The police were called by others not present in the room who mistakenly perceived the argument to be something other than what it was. When the officers arrived, I tried to assure them there was no real issue, but they proceeded to arrest Mike."
Despite these statements, Lucy DeCoutere announced that she was leaving Trailer Park Boys. "If I find out that somebody is abusive, I cut them out of my life immediately," she wrote.
Unrelated to the incident, Jonathan Torrens has also recently stepped down from his recurring role in the series.
