Lucy DeCoutere Quits 'Trailer Park Boys' over Domestic Abuse Allegations Against Bubbles Actor

It was a whirlwind weekend for the cast of the long-running Canadian comedy Trailer Park Boys. On Friday (April 1), actor Mike Smith (who plays Bubbles on the show) was arrested for alleged domestic assault. This led actress Lucy DeCoutere to resign from the show.

As the CBC reports, Smith was staying at the Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles, where he and friend Georgia Ling wound up getting into a loud argument. A neighbour ended up calling the police on him, and he was released on $20,000 USD bail four hours later.

While he admitted to the argument, Smith denied any allegations that he assaulted Ling. "Georgia is a friend of mine and we had a loud and heated dispute," Smith said in a statement. "That is all. At no time did I assault her. I am not guilty of the misdemeanour charged against me."

Further, Ling also denied the allegations. "At no point did I feel I was in danger, otherwise I would've called the police myself, which I did not," she said. "The police were called by others not present in the room who mistakenly perceived the argument to be something other than what it was. When the officers arrived, I tried to assure them there was no real issue, but they proceeded to arrest Mike."

Regardless, Lucy DeCoutere announced via Twitter that she was resigning from the show. In one tweet that has since been deleted, she explained that she quit because of Smith's arrest. Read her remaining statements below.
