Despite COVID-19 still wrecking havoc on the world, the great mask debate continues. Tom Hanks, however, has made it very clear on which side he's on, saying he has "no respect" for those people who decline to wear a mask in public.
Hanks — who was one of the very first celebrities to test positive for the coronavirus, along with wife Rita Wilson — backed the repeated cry by medical experts and politicians alike that face coverings should be worn to help limit the spread of the deadly disease.
Speaking to the Associated Press, Hanks said of wearing a mask, "I don't get it, I simply do not get it, it is literally the least you can do.
"If anybody wants to build up an argument about doing the least they can do, I wouldn't trust them with a driver's licence."
The actor went on to add: "I mean, when you drive a car, you've got to obey speed limits, you've got to use your turn signals [indicators], you've got to avoid hitting pedestrians. If you can't do those three things, you shouldn't be driving a car.
"If you can't wear a mask and wash your hands and social distance, I've got no respect for you, man. I don't buy your argument."
The comments come as many parts of the world make masks mandatory, including parts of Canada like Toronto. However, they also come as masks become an increasingly political issue, with some citizens voicing opposition to wearing an extra layer of protection over their face.
