As the arts community's war against AI wages on, Tim Burton has made his stance on the matter crystal clear.

In an interview with The Independent, the BeetlejuiceEdward Scissorhands and Wednesday director reacted to AI-generated images of Disney characters remade in his creepy, wide-eyed style. Put simply, he's not a fan.

"I can't describe the feeling it gives you. It reminded me of when other cultures say, 'Don't take my picture because it is taking away your soul,'" he said of seeing the images. "What it does is it sucks something from you. It takes something from your soul or psyche; that is very disturbing, especially if it has to do with you. It's like a robot taking your humanity, your soul."

The images, published by Buzzfeed, include hauntingly accurate renderings of characters from TangledThe Little MermaidCinderella and more. Burton wasn't even the first victim of the idea — Buzzfeed had redone more characters in the style of Wes Anderson less than a month prior.

While Burton joins James Cameron, Guillermo del Toro and more among the staunch majority of film directors against AI's involvement in movies, Christopher Nolan and Baz Luhrmann are among the few not entirely opposed to the idea

Meanwhile, Vancouver-born electronic artist Grimes has blazed a trail in support of monetizing the technology that has risen to industry giants Universal Music and Google
