'Shameless' Production Goes on Hold as Emmy Rossum Demands Equal Pay with William H. Macy

Showtime's dramedy Shameless has hit a production stoppage ahead of its eighth season, but for good reason — star Emmy Rossum is demanding to be paid the same amount as her co-star William H. Macy.

In the negotiations for the show's eighth season (which hasn't yet been formally announced), Macy reportedly got a raise. Despite that, the Wild Hogs star was already being paid far more than the rest of the cast.

As such, Rossum has demanded equal pay to Macy on the show. Further, she is also demanding back pay for all of the episodes that saw Macy get a higher rate than her.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that if Rossum successfully closes a deal, the rest of the cast is likely to follow suit. If she can't close a deal, the show could move on without her or face cancellation. That said, Variety suggests that the network would never continue on the show without Rossum.

UPDATE (12/14, 2 p.m.): The contract has been successfully renegotiated and Shameless will return for its eighth season. Read more on that here.
