'Paddington 3' Is Still Moving Forward with "the Utmost Craft and Care"

Just to put your mind at ease, it's been confirmed that Paddington 3 is still very much alive and well, and the project is indeed moving forward.

The news comes directly via Studiocanal, which told Variety: "We can confirm Studiocanal is working very hard on film 3 with the utmost craft and care — as with film 1 and 2."

This follows word from series star Hugh Bonneville, who last week told BBC Radio 2's "The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show" that there was "forward momentum" for the third film in the series and that it was "somewhere on the horizon."

Studiocanal added that it will again be teaming up with David Heyman's Heyday Films. However, as we last reported in 2018, Paddington 3 will apparently lose director Paul King, who would not be directing the third Paddington film, according to Heyman.

"I don't think Paul King will direct the third," Heyman said at the time. "He did the first two — he and I are working on another project together… He's very special, Paul. We're developing a third Paddington. We haven't got a script yet, we've got a treatment which we're still working on."

However, he added: "Paul is involved in it, I wanted him to be involved in it because I think he's such a significant voice, but I don't think he'll direct it. He worked on the idea… he comes up with the idea with Simon Farnaby and Mark Burton, and then they develop it and come back for more, back and forth, and then it'll get written and Paul will come in and stir it up a little bit."

In Studiocanal latest update, the company did not provide any firm word about King's involvement — or lack thereof. So it's a big stay tuned on this one.
