Keanu Reeves Confirms He's Married to Winona Ryder "Under the Eyes of God"

"We did a whole take of a marriage ceremony with real priests"

Are Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves technically married? According to Reeves, it depends on who you ask — and it goes all the way up to the big guy in the sky.

During a recent interview with Esquire in which the actor revealed his desire to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Reeves also cleared some things up about his long-contested marriage status — at least, according to the parties involved in the filming of Francis Ford Coppola's 1992 film Dracula and, naturally, God.

"We did a whole take of a marriage ceremony with real priests," Reeves began, referring to the movie's scene in which the pair's Mina Harker and Jonathan Harker are wed. "Winona says we are. Coppola says we are. So I guess we're married under the eyes of God."

This isn't the first time Reeves has addressed the question either — during an appearance on The Talk in 2019, he revealed that "once in a while, I will get a text: 'Hello, husband'" from Ryder.

"I didn't really believe her, and then Francis Ford Coppola, the director of Dracula, contacted Winona and said publicly that, yeah, that really happened," he explained further. "The priest did a full ceremony and Winona and I got married." Whether the ceremony was legally binding or not is up for debate.

Despite their matrimonial technicality, Ryder and Reeves have been happily coupled up to their respective romantic partners, Scott Mackinlay Hahn and Alexandra Grant, for years.
