David Fincher Is Apparently Too Busy Making Crypto Commercials with Matt Damon to Give Us a New Season of 'Mindhunter'

The filmmaker has plenty of time to produce Crypto.com's latest ad, yet we still can't get Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany and Anna Torv back together

David Fincher has been notoriously flip-floppy on whether or not he'll ever give us new episodes of the beloved true-crime Netflix series Mindhunter. But, while we wait maybe another two years for the return of Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany and Anna Torv's serial killer-busting FBI team on the small screen, Fincher is apparently perfectly happy to spend his time, uh, doing a cryptocurrency commercial with Matt Damon.

While we've been waiting with bated breath for Season 3's Dennis Rader arc, Fincher has evidently had his hands full producing Crypto.com's new global ad campaign "Fortune Favours the Brave" with the dude who just learned you can't say gay slurs and the director who did Transcendence. Priorities.

We're not here to review the commercial itself, but let's just say Damon and co. are pretty heavy-handed with the supposed merits of this particular brand of currency trading, juxtaposing images of "a historical journey of brave men and women who've made a difference in the world" with Crypto.com's branding and, inexplicably, a closing shot of Mars. Guess Elon Musk wasn't available?

In a statement [via Variety] Damon said of the partnership: "Crypto.com is a cryptocurrency platform that shares my commitment to empowering people around the globe with the tools needed to take control of their futures." Sure. "They have built a crypto platform that is accessible and puts people first," he added

In fairness to Fincher, he did also just sign a deal with Netflix to executive produce Voir, a new documentary series of "visual essays" celebrating cinema. So, at least we're due for something a tad more creative from the Oscar-winner.

Previously, the director bemoaned the gruelling production schedule of Mindhunter, citing it as the main reason for bailing on the show just as it was getting good. He also hasn't written off a new season entirely, as reported by Small Screen back in April.
