In an excellent move for diversity in Hollywood, Disney has announced Grown-ish actor and R&B performer Halle Bailey (of the group Chloe X Halle) has been cast to play Ariel in the forthcoming live adaptation of The Little Mermaid.
Bailey joins a cast that includes Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina, with Melissa McCarthy currently in talks to play Ursula the sea witch.
Mary Poppins Returns director Rob Marshall is set to direct the film, for which Lin-Manuel Miranda has written some new songs.
