Andre Braugher, the actor who played Captain Raymond Holt on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, has died. He was 61.

Braugher's publicist confirmed the news to the Associated Press, saying that he had died after "a brief illness." No further details have been provided at this time.

The actor's Brooklyn Nine-Nine castmates — including Marc Evan Jackson, who played his onscreen husband Kevin, Chelsea Peretti (Gina Linetti) and Terry Crews (Terry Jeffords) — have paid tribute on social media. See those posts below.

Born in Chicago in 1962, Braugher rose to fame playing Detective Frank Pembleton on the '90s TV drama Homicide: Life on the Street, which ran for seven seasons and earned him a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1998. He then appeared in Ray Romano's Men of a Certain Age before the first episodes of cop comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine's eight seasons began airing in 2013.
