Amber Heard Donates $7 Million Johnny Depp Divorce Settlement to Charity

When victims of domestic abuse come forward, they're often met with unfair scrutiny by the public, who often accuse them of acting out for attention or financial gain. That kind of scrutiny can't possibly be applied to Amber Heard, however. After alleging that her soon-to-be ex-husband Johnny Depp was physically abusive, she's announced plans to donate her entire divorce settlement to charity.

It's no small amount of cash, either. Heard is about to be paid out $7 million USD when she splits from the actor. She'll split the money equally between The Children's Hospital of Los Angeles and the American Civil Liberties Union, the latter of which will be donated "with a particular focus to stop violence against women."

In a statement, Heard said, "As described in the restraining order and divorce settlement, money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves."

The couple's divorce was settled earlier this week. They had been married in February 2015.
