Adam Sandler Phoned Jim Carrey to Congratulate Him on 'Sonic' While He Was Still in the Theatre Watching It

To be fair, it is a shockingly good movie

Before he went into self-isolation and started exclusively doing talk show appearances, everyone's favourite goofball Adam Sandler spent his last night at the movies watched Jeff Fowler's surprisingly solid Sonic the Hedgehog movie. If you've yet to see it, the movie is packed with jokes and, most importantly, a career-best performance from Jim Carrey. So good was his performance, in fact, that Sandler decided to call him from the theatre while the movie was still taking place.

The Sandman recounted his experience of disrupting an admittedly empty theatre while discussing Sonic on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

"I saw Jim Carrey's movie, the Sonic," Sandler said. "I noticed that people were spread out, there were only a few of us in the theatres and I was laughing very loud. The people behind us were laughing, too. So I think our last big night out: Sonic."

"I called [Jim] Carrey from the theatre. I was telling him how funny he was while it was going on," Sandler admitted. "I didn't know it was going to be the last movie I ever saw at a movie theatre."

Honestly, Sonic is a solid choice for the last movie to be seen, although we imagine the experience would be even better if we heard Sandler blabbing away on his phone in the back row.
