Torero

'Torero' (album stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 26, 2015

Torero is the Spanish word for bullfight, and one of the vocalists of the Toronto band Torero is named Eleanor Bull. Get it? The cleverly named roots-rock band will release their self-titled debut album on June 1, and the entire thing can be streamed in the meantime.

Originally known as the Bullfighters, the band recorded the album last summer with producer Aaron Goldstein at the Lincoln County Social Club. It begins with the twangy, spaghetti western drama of "Shot in the Dark" and ends with the stormy slow-burn of "Ropes Tied." In between, Torero is stuffed with organ-whirling country rock and weeping pedal steel that conjures up rustic vibes befitting the expansive nature scene that graces the album cover.
