Thao & the Get Down Stay Down

"We the Common (for Valerie Bolden)" / 'Behind the Making of the Making of How It Was Made' Episode 1 (video documentary)

Thao and the Get Down Stay Down's We the Common is due out on February 5 through Ribbon Music, and now the title track has emerged, in addition to a new album trailer.

"We the Common (for Valerie Bolden)" is a sprightly song that juxtaposes a giddy pop groove with rustic banjo strums and a wordless earworm of a falsetto hook. It comes via Spin.

As for the making-of video, it's a tongue-in-cheek clip that parodies frontwoman Thao Nguyen's writing process, as she battles a creative block and phones up an ex for some help with mad-lib style lyrics. Nguyen is hardly the first current indie musician to release a comedic behind-the-scenes clip, but she's definitely one of the funniest. It's called Behind the Making of the Making of How It Was Made: Episode 1 "The Hand of God." Both it and the new single are blow.

Thao and the Get Down Stay Down will be touring North American this March and April. See the schedule here, and read about We the Common here.
