Halifax-born singer-songwriter Brendan Croskerry's musical career took a bit of a detour when he hopped on Rob Ford's sinking ship to serve as special assistant to the troubled Toronto mayor. Now, he's documented the "interesting" experience in a four-song EP called Live from City Hall.
Following some musical success in Germany and Spain, Croskerry joined Ford's team in May 2013, following the crack video scandal and the mass exodus of staffers.
It was one year ago (November 18) that Ford was stripped of his mayoral powers, and Croskerry has shared never-before-seen footage of Ford in the moments following the news.
"The mayor returned to his office and was met an extraordinary young gentleman," Croskerry said. "I filmed the interaction and have recorded an EP inspired by my time at the office."
The sad, bizarre video sees a small child singing to the mayor in an attempt to cheer him up, while serving as a promotional video for Croskerry's new music.
The EP itself was produced by Dave Newfeld (Broken Social Scene, Holy Fuck) and contains topical tunes "Live from City Hall," "Ghetto Gold" and "Megacity." A collection of non-Ford-themed songs from Croskerry is apparently in the works for next year.
