Some 17 years after putting down their remote controls, Vancouver-by-way-of-Saskatchewan alt-rock quartet Age of Electric have announced that they're picking up from where they left off in the late '90s and playing a reunion gig.
A press release confirms that the rock crew reunite for a show at Calgary's Marquee Beer Market & Stage on August 29. Though the band never officially broke up, this marks the first Age of Electric performance since 1998. It's unclear if the act plan to perform together beyond this appearance.
Adding to the Calgary show will be fellow long-gone '90s Cancon act Zuckerbaby, who will be playing for the first time in 10 years.
Age of Electric were formed in Saskatchewan in 1989. The group features guitarist Ryan Dahle, drummer Kurt Dahle, vocalist/guitarist Todd Kerns and bassist John Kerns. The outfit's first big break was their 1993 EP Ugly, which was produced by Bob Rock (Metallica). The record featured singles "Ugly" and "Untitled."
Following a 1995 self-titled LP, the band linked up with major label Mercury for 1997's Make a Pest a Pet. That LP featured their biggest hit, "Remote Control," which broke through the Top 10 on Canada's Top 100 Singles Chart and was featured on Big Shiny Tunes 2.
While the band quietly went on hiatus in 1998, the members have been active in several projects since then. By the end of Age of Electric, the Dahle brothers had already been performing in Limblifter, who issued their own self-titled LP in 1996. While Kurt no longer performs in the band, Ryan and the current lineup issued their Pacific Milk full-length earlier this year.
Outside of those projects, Kurt had joined Vancouver pop supergroup the New Pornographers in 2000 and held the position until 2014. Ryan Dahle has been performing as part of Mounties, along with Hawksley Workman and Hot Hot Heat's Steve Bays.
After Age of Electric, Todd and John Kerns had reached out to brother Ryan Kerns to form Static in Stereo, who issued a self-titled album in 2000.
Todd Kerns currently performs with Slash as part of Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, who recently announced another leg of tour dates behind the former Guns N' Roses guitarist's latest album. You'll find all of the date details over here.
