You don't hear too much about Vancouver's Limblifter these days, but an upcoming re-release of their self-titled 1996 debut should have CanCon alt-pop nostalgists whipped into a frenzy. The album, pressed on vinyl for the first time, arrives as a reissue July 10 through Toronto imprint We Are Busy Bodies.
"When I first started to attend concerts in 1996, I was exposed to a great number of bands like the Inbreds, Super Friendz and Limblifter," We Are Busy Bodies owner Eric Warner said in a statement. "They were part of my musical education. Limblifter's first album has remained in regular rotation for the past 16 years and upon finding out it had never been released on vinyl, I became determined to change that."
As the press sheet puts it, Limblifter materialized "inside an abandoned meat locker, amidst the hooker and drug infested Yaletown district of Vancouver" while brothers Ryan and Kurt Dahle took some time away from their full-time gig, Age of Electric. Linking up with bassist Ian Somers, the band practised just ten times before they laid down Limblifter in a four-day studio stint. The album offered up the rock radio hit "Tinfoil," whose video you can see below, and you can download album cut "Cellophane" here.
The group signed to Mercury Records for the release, played their first show at the legendary CBGB's club in New York, and flew back for a premiere performance in their hometown opening for Oasis. The band even went on to nab some Juno noms for the disc.
Limblifter issued two more LPs, 2000's Bellaclava and 2004's I/O. Kurt left the band before recording the latter to focus on the New Pornographers, while Ryan has since launched a solo career, last issuing 2009's Irrational Anthems.
A new lineup of the band will be playing a couple of gigs this June, though, in Hamilton and Toronto. You can check out the dates below.
