British punk poets the Libertines recently pushed back the release of Anthems for Doomed Youth by a week — but really, what's a week when fans have been waiting more than a decade for new material from the band? Determined to prove that the wait will be worth it, the band have shared another track from their forthcoming third LP.
"Heart of the Matter" opens quietly with an endearingly haphazard verse from Pete Doherty before things take an upbeat swing towards the band's signature swaggering indie rock sound. Co-frontman Carl Barât follows Doherty with a verse of his own, firmly asserting that the pair's back-and-forth songwriting style has stayed in tact after all these years.
The new track follows previously heard album cuts like "Gunga Din," "Barbarians," "Glasgow Coma Scale Blues" and "Anthem for Doomed Youth."
