Members of Nashville alt-country outfit Lambchop are focusing their efforts on a new, genre-jumping project called HeCTA, who will issue their debut LP late this summer. Merge Records serves up the band's first course, The Diet, on September 18.
A press release explains that HeCTA was formed by Lambchop vets Scott Martin, Ryan Norris and Kurt Wagner. The record is said to find all three members saluting electronic music, exploring "the notion of 'song'" and borrowing elements from stand-up comedy.
"This music is our attempt to extend the boundaries of our expression and have some fun," Wagner explained in a statement. "It's not Americana, house, techno, trap, juke, or blaze. Why would it be? And like any good diet, it will be reviled then ultimately loved by all who give it a chance to work its way into their lives."
The debut collection was tracked at Nashville's Battle Tapes facility with engineer Jeremy Ferguson. In addition to the multiple duties handled by HeCTA — including performing synthesizers, drums, guitar, vocoder and various programming responsibilities — the band were assisted by electronic figures like Morgan Geist, John McEntire (Tortoise) and Q.
