Somewhere between the intricacy and intimacy of atmospheric metal and the cinematic grandness of art rock, Junius have been fashioned an aesthetic that blends the aggressive and the emotive. Days of the Fallen Sun is not composed entirely of new material: "The Time Of Perfect Virtue" and "A Day Dark With Night" appeared previously on splits with Juarez and Rosetta respectively, but somehow together with new material and a series of instrumental interludes, the EP comes across as a coherent musical narrative.
Where their last full-length, Reports from the Threshold of Death, had an introspective, resigned quality, Days of the Fallen Sun rages against the dying of that same light. In particular, "Battle in the Sky" has a sweeping, epic quality that positions the soul as a battlefield. While their exploration of death on a personal level was philosophical, when it comes to the death of the planet, Junius have composed a tribute to the end of time on Days of the Fallen Sun that is gloriously apocalyptic.
