Hilary Grist

"Come & Go" (video)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Mar 30, 2015

Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Hilary Grist released her latest LP Come & Go last summer. Now, the album's title track has been given the visual treatment, and Exclaim! is pleased to share the video premiere of "Come & Go."

The track itself "deals lyrically with the impermanent and contrasting bittersweet elements of life," and this gets played out allegorically in the filmed footage. We follow a door-to-door salesman, stuck in an unhappy daily routine of travelling alone from town to town, staying in seedy motels and eating mediocre meals by himself. He dreams of getting away, and when things take a dark turn on the road, he finally gets the escape he was longing for.

It was directed by Mike Southworth and shot by Byron Kopman, using Kowa Anamorphic lenses to achieve the video's vintage look.

Come & Go is available now. Watch the brand new clip for the title track below.
