Dan Mangan Asks 'What Happens Next?' in New CBC Documentary

Over the past few years, Dan Mangan has become one of Canada's most beloved guitar-toting troubadours. So how did the Vancouver songwriter pull it off? Soon we'll get some insight into the man behind the music thanks to the CBC feature What Happens Next? The Dan Mangan Documentary.

The film is due to air on CBC TV on August 25 at 7 p.m. PST. A brief official blurb describes the flick like this: "The night before musician Dan Mangan plays the biggest concert of his life, he invites a few close friends over for a poker game and explores the ideas of fate, destiny and the daunting question... what happens next?"

The concert in question was Mangan's hometown performance at the Orpheum last November, which saw the songwriter employing a mini-orchestra for an epic rock show in support of the then-new Oh Fortune. Watch a trailer for the documentary below. You'll see performance footage mixed with lots of behind-the-scenes clips and interviews, plus that poker game mentioned above.

The doc was directed and produced by Brent Hodge and Jon Siddall, both of whom were also involved in last year's Said the Whale documentary Winning America.

What Happens Next? is currently only scheduled to air on CBC television in British Columbia, but CBC Music notes that it will also be available online.
