Counterparts previously described their album Tragedy Will Find Us as being about hitting "rock bottom." Now, you can join the Ontario melodic hardcore band at the bottom, since they're streaming the entire thing ahead of its release on July 24 through New Damage Records/Pure Noise Records.
As expected, the 11-song collection matches its lyrical angst with crushingly heavy riffs, thundering rhythms and pained, larynx-shredding vocals. There are some quiet moments in tracks like "Burn" and "Down," but for the most part, this is a record that manages to be melodic and cinematic while holding nothing back in terms of heaviness.
"Tragedy Will Find Us is a record about my life falling apart. Simple as that," frontman Brendan Murphy previously explained. "Lyrically, it represents me at rock bottom. But I feel like when you hit that low, you have nowhere to go but up. Counterparts has always been about coping with everything life throws at you, and it's no different with this release. Tragedy will find all of us eventually, and it's up to you to claw your way out."
