Beef 2012: Genesis P-Orridge and Chris Carter Embroiled in Twitter Battle over 'Desertshore'
The industrial pioneer, who left the band in 2010, lashed out at the former collaborators on Twitter [via Pitchfork], calling the Desertshore album a ruse, as it's not actually by Throbbing Gristle.
Orridge writes, "CHRIS & COSEY released the TG records without my consent & have kept all the money. We NEVER quit TG. That is UNTRUE. BOYCOTT their records…Watch this space. Chris & Cosey said NO RECORD can be TG unless it is ALL 4 of us. DESERTSHORE is NOT a legitimate TG release. BOYCOTT it."
Carter quickly shot back via his own Twitter account, noting, "@GenesisBPO are you sure you want to make this a public argument? The TRUTH WILL BE TOLD & we will NOT hold back on FACTS".
P-Orridge went on to allege that the other band members don't have the right to release any Throbbing Gristle records without his consent ("DO YOU HAVE MY AGREEMENT TO RELEASE TG RECORDS via CARGO?"), but Carter pointed out that the double-album is technically credited to Chris Carter, Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson and Cosey Fanni Tutti.
"Get your facts straight before accusing us," Carter tweeted. "DS/TFR is NOT being released as a Throbbing Gristle album."
As previously reported, Desertshore, a full-album interpretation of Nico's 1970 album of the same name, does not feature P-Orridge, but instead guest vocalists including Antony Hegarty, Sasha Grey and Blixa Bargeld, among others. Desertshore/Final Report arrives November 26 through Industrial Records.
