Live In Los Angeles

BY Jason SchneiderPublished Jul 1, 2005

As one of the seminal bands of U.S. punk, the reunion of the original line-up of X — John Doe, Exene Cervenka, Billy Zoom and D.J. Bonebrake — late last year was certainly an event worthy of documentation. What also made it worthy was the fact that the music still holds up remarkably well today. Like many other original punks, X's main goal was to make rock and roll exciting again, and over 25 years later, they are still able to reach down for that same "go for broke" attitude on staples like "Johnny Hit And Run Pauline" and "Devil Doll." The deeper artistic ambitions of Exene and Doe also intimated that X would have staying power, but then again Zoom's open-stance rockabilly look and style was never in danger of losing its cool. Live In Los Angeles is a great treat for long-time fans and a nice introduction for curious newcomers. (Shout Factory/Sony Music)
