The Wooden Birds Return with Two Matchsticks, Tap Ben Gibbard and Matt Pond to Guest

Despite American Analog Set giving up the ghost a few years back, frontman Andrew Kenny has continued with his knack for heartfelt songwriting with the Wooden Birds. The group released their debut album Magnolia in 2009, and now they're set to return with a sophomore effort this year.

The album is called Two Matchsticks and will be released by Barsuk Records on June 7. Label head and Death Cab for Cutie heartthrob Ben Gibbard also makes an appearance on the record alongside members of Ola Podrida and touring Wooden Birds members Matt Pond and Leslie Sisson. The album was recorded at home by Kenny and mixed at Resonate Studio in Austin, TX.

For now, the Wooden Birds' only tour dates are at SXSW. However, a press release promises that they will dust off some American Analog Set classics in their set, so if you happen to be in Austin, it would be wise not to miss it.

Tour dates:

3/13 Austin, TX - Club DeVille, Found Footage Festival

3/17 Austin, TX - Homeslice

3/17 Austin, TX - Red Eyed Fly, Barsuk Showcase

3/19 Austin, TX - The Hilton, KUT performance
