Winnipeg Filmmakers Salute Flaming Lips' Zaireeka

BY Josiah HughesPublished May 13, 2009

Back in 1997, the Flaming Lips released their wacko Zaireeka box, a four-disc album that required all four discs playing at once to hear all the parts. The album was incredibly divisive because of its difficult format, but apparently it made some true hardcore fans in Winnipeg, where on May 23 the denizens of the Lo Pub will be celebrating the album with a film festival.

As the press release explains: "Eight local filmmakers were given a song from the album and asked to make a video component to accompany it using four screens - one for each track of their selected song, with the finished video works to be projected simultaneously. This is a once-in-a-lifetime video experiment - don't miss it!" Those filmmakers are Leslie Supnet, Clint Enns, Neil Hoare, Hope Peterson, Jaimz Asmundson, Damien Ferland, Kier-La Janisse and Cam Woykin.
