Wavves and Weezer Team Up for Split 7-inch

While we recently learned how much Weezer loves the USA, the long-running pop-rock project apparently have a thing for punk crew Wavves, too. The bands have just announced that they'll be issuing a split single together through Wavves leader Nathan Williams' Ghost Ramp imprint.

Weezer revealed the plans for the split 7-inch today (September 9) over Twitter, explaining that the record will feature a brand new Weezer tune titled "Fake Smiles and Nervous Laughter." As you can see below, the artwork for the track is a visual nod to the group's classic Pinkerton LP, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this month.

The flip side finds Wavves covering Weezer's "You Gave Your Love to Me Softly," a poppy blast that originally appeared on the soundtrack to 1995 coming of age flick Angus before being slotted as a b-side on Weezer's "El Scorcho" single. In another nod to the elder "W" band's past, the artwork for the Wavves side of the release is an illustrated goof on the cover of Weezer's 1994 self-titled debut album.

Modern Vinyl reports that the record will be pressed in a run of 2,000 copies, with half of those appearing on transparent blue vinyl, and the rest on traditional black wax. A pre-sale goes live through the Ghost Ramp site this Monday (September 12) at noon EDT.
