As previously reported, the new split 7-inch between alt-rock icons Weezer and pop-punk mainstays Wavves went on sale today (September 12) via Ghost Ramp. The bands have also done us a solid by unveiling a stream of the younger outfit's cover of Weezer b-side "You Gave Your Love to Me Softly."
Wavves' redo is pretty faithful to the original, which had appeared on both the Angus soundtrack and as a b-side on the "El Scorcho" single. Like the '90s version, the cover is slathered with fuzz and energy, bubblegum-sweet "la la las," and some romance-inspecting lines. Wavves spice things up in the middle of their rendition, slowing things down just slightly with a "Be My Baby" kind of beat.
You'll find the cover below, while you can order the record over here. Weezer's side of the record features an exclusive cut called "Fake Smiles and Nervous Laughter."
