Last Friday (April 27), Kanye West followed the release of his bonkers track "Lift Yourself" by sharing "Ye vs. the People," a song of back-and-forth political raps with T.I. Now, West has shared a behind-the-scenes video of their discussion and subsequent recording session.

In the clip, T.I. says to West, "When you have lives lost, as artists, that gives us an obligation to stand up against all of that kind of shit," adding, "Your intentions, from what you tell me, are pure, but the direction that you took to get there is a bit unorthodox and kind of, I would say, some people would say, thoughtless."

West responds, "If I had not done what I felt, and I just thought, then it would have never happened. And when I wear that hat, it's like a fight for equality. Like, 'Oh, I can wear this hat too.'"

After West reiterates that "half the shit Trump does, I don't agree with," T.I. asks him what half he does agree with. West answers, "Just the ability to do what no one said you can do, to do the impossible, is the most inspiring thing to me."

A brief discussion of how "Ye vs. the People" should play out leads to the recording session. You can take in the clip in the player below.

Artists like T.I. and John Legend have reached out to West in recent days about his political allegiances, a discussion that was kickstarted by an image of West wearing a Make America Great Again hat. Other artists have let West know that his support of Donald Trump won't be tolerated.
