Following the launch of this summer's Forgotten in Space vinyl box set, Voivod have set the controls for further intergalactic exploration on a new EP inspired by Ultraman.
In tribute to the Japanese tokusatsu hero, Voivod will release the new Ultraman EP on November 4 via Century Media, featuring an original rendition of the Ultraman theme from 1966, additional music from the Japanese TV series and some previously unreleased Voivod live cuts.
The EP, now available for pre-order in 12-inch vinyl and digital formats, will arrive as Voivod tour Europe in support of Opeth this fall.
The Ultraman renditions were recorded during sessions for Synchro Anarchy, the Quebec metal vets' 15th studio album that arrived earlier this year. As you'll find with the tracklisting below, Voivod have even cut a Japanese language version of the Ultraman theme, sung by guitarist Daniel "Chewy" Mongrain.
"As a kid I often dreamed of finding a Beta Capsule, so I could transform into Ultraman, keep the city from being destroyed by a giant fire spitting monster, and hopefully save Akiko Fuji in the process," drummer Michel "Away" Langevin shared in a statement. "I'm pretty sure many people had the same dream…we sure did in Voïvod, and that's why we decided to cover the main and battle TV themes for this EP."

Earlier this year, a campaign was launched to erect a statue of late Voivod guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour in the band's hometown of Saguenay, QC.
