Village

'Village' (EP stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 28, 2012

There are some newcomers in the world of Canadian dream pop: Vancouver's Village, who have a self-titled EP available online with a seven-inch to follow in the coming months.

The Village EP includes three songs plus a remix, and boasts chiming guitars and velvety vocals that are blanketed in a thick swath of narcotic reverb. The tempos are slow and the arrangements relatively sparse, giving the songs a woozy, morning-after feel.

As for the remix, it's by the Passenger and it makes the song "Stranger Thoughts" even more pillowy and blissed-out than it already was.

Expect this EP to come out on seven-inch vinyl via Kingfisher Bluez Recording Company sometime this summer. In the meantime, it's available as a pay-what-you-want download from Bandcamp. Scroll past the band's upcoming show dates to listen.

In the interests of full disclosure, we should probably point out that band member Al Smith is an occasional Exclaim! contributor.
