Viking Skull

Doom Gloom Heartache & Whiskey

BY Keith CarmanPublished Nov 19, 2008

It's rare when a band can evoke the sensation of being stuck in the middle of a sweaty biker bar with only one chord. Now imagine that drawn out over three-quarters of an hour. With the groove metal-meets-Southern boogie of Doom Gloom Heartache & Whiskey, one can barely get the stench of hot leather, dirty denim and spilled Jim Beam, the sound of rattling P.A. speakers and sight of hairy men, women with questionable ethics and peeling black paint out of the mind. Loose and muddy, grumbling and discontent, the thick, heaving beat Viking Skull surge with is a sick culmination of too many stoned nights listening to Black Sabbath, dreaming of being Dukes Of Nothing and partying to ANTiSEEN. Roll it all into the same driving rage as Artimus Pyledriver, put it on tour with Clutch and it's easy to see how Doom Gloom Heartache & Whiskey should be pouring out of blue collar dives across the nation.
