Vancouver's drone- and noise-celebrating Big Joy Festival has unveiled the programming behind its third annual event, which will showcase experimental performances from Sarah Davachi, Bardo: Basho, Panabrite, Souns and more.
As with previous years, the event will be held the first weekend of December, with shows taking place at various locations around the city. The fest runs from December 4 to 7, with organizers hoping to present "a broad spectrum of what Vancouver's eclectic music scene has to offer." A few out-of-town acts have likewise been slotted into the ambient, noise and drone-heavy shows.
On the local front, sets will be performed by Sarah Davachi and Richard Smith, Fond of Tigers/Destroyer trumpeter J.P. Carter, Mass Marriage, Derivatives, Giorgio Magnanensi, OKPK, Forever & Sunsmell, Fortresses, Souns, Clear Channel, Strangling Fruit and more.
Out-of-town acts include Seattle's Bardo: Basho and Panabrite, Portland's Daniel Menche, and Vancouver Island's Flat Grey.
You'll find a full breakdown of the date, set and venue specifics over here.
This year, festival passes will be on sale for $40 at local record stores, as well as Big Joy co-curator Shaunn Watt's hair salon, which is also named Big Joy.
