A Tribe Called Quest have been heard from only rarely in the past couple of decades, as the classic hip-hop group split in 1998 and they've played a scattering of reunion shows since then. Their most recent shows were opening up for Kanye West in 2013, and while they hinted at the time that they were done for good, the group have now announced plans to reunite once again, this time for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The band will appear on Fallon on Friday night (November 13). That's the same day that they release a 25th anniversary edition of their 1990 album People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm via Legacy. Presumably, then, they will play a song from that album. It seems that all four members — Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi — will be on hand.
This news might come as a surprise to fans of the group, since Q-Tip tweeted back in 2013 that their New York shows with Yeezy would be their "FINAL 2 joints."
It remains to be seen whether this is purely a one-off, or if this kicks off any sort of a larger-scale reunion.
