The follow-up to 2021's 'Thirstier' arrives next year

Torres is back with a new album — What an Enormous Room, Mackenzie Scott's sixth full-length album as Torres, is arriving January 26 on Merge. Alongside the album announcement, she's also shared a video for lead single "Collect."

"Collect" is a sharp, shiny rock song that finds Scott singing, "Want to know what's next? / Colossal success / Justice is coming / Know it and relax." The video sees Scott stalking through one of those lit-ceiling basement sets under multicoloured lights. What an Enormous Room was recorded at Stadium Heights Sound in Durham, NC, and was co-produced by Sarah Jaffe.

Julien Baker wrote the album's official biography, and in it she writes:

What I can say about Torres is I think the music comes from a convicted place. Not convicted meaning a person is narrowly and foolishly committed to an ideal, or unshakably convinced of themselves, or a zealot, or stubborn.

I mean dedicated, I mean: If Torres' music gets weird, gets brainy, gets funny, gets defiant, provokes, deliberately scandalizes, employs the crass to undermine the austere, courts lofty philosophical truth — it's all done with the conviction of an artist with the (essential) belief in the worth of their task.
