Toronto's Red Light bar — a West End venue that hosted BADBADNOTGOOD's first-ever public performance — has been sold.
Owner Nic Savage shared news of the sale through Instagram today, having closed the cozy Dundas St. W bar indefinitely in March to adhere to coronavirus social distancing requirements.
"We've had some of the best times and the honor of hosting what we think are some of the best parties the west end has ever seen, but after 11+ years our doors are closing," Savage wrote. "In the midst of this this unprecedented shut down someone has bought TRL from us.
"Our love and deepest thanks goes out to all who were a part of this over the years, and it warms our hearts to know that bathroom #2 was broken one last time before it was all over. THE RED LIGHT LOVES YOU!"
Known for its wide selection of whiskeys, the Red Light also famously hosted BADBADNOTGOOD's debut public performance in 2011, for which you can find a poster below.
Then a trio, the Canadian group would record the performance for release as BBNGLIVE 1 that same year. The evening's set saw BBNG cover songs by Waka Flocka Flame, Joy Division, A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Slum Village, Tyler, the Creator and more.
More recent years saw the beloved bar play host to a rotating series of DJ nights and events spanning multiple genres, inviting Toronto selectors Famous Lee, Andy Capp, Traphall Boyz, DJ Blush and many more behind the decks.
