Presented by Estonian Museum Canada / VEMUEstonian Music Week (EMW) returns in 2023 for its fifth year of celebrating the small country with big ideas.

The bi-annual festival takes place in Toronto from May 24 to 28, with a full day of programming also being hosted in Hamilton on May 27. Multiple EMW events have been held in Hamilton before, but this marks the first occasion that part of the festival will officially take place there.

While the full lineup has yet to be announced, the fest has revealed its first wave of performers, including Montreal electronic music pathfinder Kara-Lis Coverdale, Estonian folk artist of the year Mari Kalkun, jazz pianist Kirke Karja and Celtic folk oracles Triskele. A press release promises big surprises to come from the full slate of performers, including several notable Canadian musicians.

This year's EMW invites audiences to spaces ranging from intimate clubs to vast industrial grounds, aiming to provide the sights, sounds and tastes of the Nordic high life. Running throughout the festival for the first time is the Nordic Connect Conference, which is designed to help music industry professionals build their Baltic and Nordic networks with talks and workshops.

The conference will set the tone for the first day of the fest, with musical performances showcasing a total of 12 artists to follow on May 25. The third day will be an immersive art party with installations, regional cuisine, cultural exhibits and, of course, music, before things move over to Hamilton on May 27.

EMW festival and day passes go on sale March 1. Individual concert tickets will be available starting April 1. Visit the fest's website for more information.
