Today Forever

Profound Measures

BY Ronak GhorbaniPublished Dec 1, 2009

Blending pop and brutal breakdowns, German quintet Today Forever deliver a fresh take on melodic hardcore on their newest release, Profound Measures. Changing tempos multiple times on each track, Today Forever surprise when you least expect it. Starting like a popcore tune with a bouncy beat, on "Mask Off," guitarists David Gloeckner and Manuel Otto quickly change the pace a minute in with heavy chugs that morph into a punk rock circle pit feel. With guest vocals from Silverstein's Shane Told, the track has nice tough and melodic layers. Similarly, on "Cellphone Slaves," vocalist Christian Besteck gets down to business with a clean growl that never wavers, while heavy, chugging guitars are accented by melodic trills. Then they break into an airy pop chorus and end on a thunderous note with a relentless series of breakdowns. Profound Measures shows a well-developed band with a sound that's honest and straight from the heart.
