Tin Man Perfume

Tin Man Perfume
Tin Man (aka Johannes Auvinen) started out in 2004 with a series of acid house twelves that continued to flow until the end of the decade. In 2010, Tin Man released Scared, a vinyl-only album released on Pennsylvania's White Denim label, with minimal distribution. Tragically overlooked, it was a moody masterpiece in experimental house with robotic, vocoder-laden vocals. Beautifully minimal and highly unsettling, it sounded like an album that Frank (the sinister rabbit from Donnie Darko) might make. Perfume takes off where Scared finished, although it's a far less morose affair. Weird, twisted and brilliant, the off-kilter piano melodies and unexpected time signatures have a warping effect on the mind, and Auvinen's disembodied, creepy vocals will make your skin crawl. This house music isn't made for dancing, but for sitting alone in the small hours. Again released with limited distribution, hopefully Perfume won't be another well-kept secret. (Salon)
