Thurston Moore Nabs Beck to Produce New Solo LP

While Beck is an outstanding artist in his own right, giving us more than a few hits to hold onto over the years, the singer is into working behind the mixing board these days. Last year, he produced Charlotte Gainsbourg's stellar IRM. Earlier this week, we pointed to his surprisingly booty-bangin' minimalist rock remix of Lykke Li's "Get Some." If that wasn't enough, today (December 15) we found out that Beck manned the boards for Sonic Youth member Thurston Moore's upcoming solo album, Benediction.

An interview with the Philadelphia Weekly [via TwentyFourBit] finds Moore discussing the man known as Beck Hansen's involvement in his latest solo venture, which will be released by Matador sometime next year. In addition to production skills, Beck couldn't help but play on the record too, along with harpist Mary Lattimore and violinist Samara Lubelski.

"It's called Benediction, recorded in Southern California at Beck's home studio, with him producing. Beck sings and plays a little bit on it," Moore said of his solo LP. "Samara and Mary both play on it quite extensively and very, very beautifully. Beck really put them through the paces."

This isn't the first time Hansen and Moore have worked together. Earlier this year, the pair got together for Beck's Record Club to record some Yanni covers, with the friendship between the two reaching back decades.
