Throwing Muses Return with 'Purgatory/Paradise' LP/Book

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Aug 28, 2013

Last year, Throwing Muses revealed they had finished work on their first album in close to a decade, and now the classic college rock crew have announced the set is called Purgatory/Paradise. The multimedia release comes packaged as an art book with a CD, and arrives November 11 in North America via It Books and through Friday Project  in the UK. The project will be available digitally as an e-book/music app on October 28.

The CD contains 32 new tracks, making for the first full-length release from Throwing Muses since their 2003 self-titled set. They did, however, issue an anthology in 2011.

A press release describes Purgatory/Paradise as a "fractured album" crafted over the last 10 years, which weighs in "big beyond the scope of rock." This latest collection reunites guitarist/vocalist Kristin Hersh with drummer Dave Narcizo and bassist Bernard Georges.

You can sample the crunchy pop-rock track "sleepwalking 1" down below, where you'll also find the lengthy tracklisting.

As for the book, it was designed by Narcizo and features lyrics, photos and writing from Hersh. It also includes extra downloadable multimedia content, from instrumental passages to commentary and album art.
